Fall Lawn Care Tips

We’ve experienced some high heat and dry weather this late-summer season. Some lawns may have faired better than others, but one thing still remains; each lawn needs to be winterized before we reach freezing temperatures and our world becomes covered with snow.

Over Seed
September is a great time to over seed your lawn. We’re still getting some warm weather and high amounts of sun. To ensure your lawn has it’s best chance at lush grass with full coverage, be sure to make seeding part of your regular fall lawn maintenance routine. Seed multiple times this fall for the maximum amounts of coverage. Be sure to pay special attention to those areas in your yard that were hit hard with our drought season.

Setting Your Controller
When setting your irrigation system controller for watering your lawn this fall, be sure to set multiple start times. Since you’ll be seeding, multiple starts times are necessary to ensure the grass seeds get established with your soil.
Cutting Your Grass
When you mow your lawn, cut your grass shorter than usual to ensure maximum sun penetration for your new seeds. They need to germinate quickly and establish roots as soon as possible so they can survive the dormant winter.
Putting a little extra work into your lawn this fall will create less work for you in the spring and will make your lawn green, thick, and ready for summer!
